THE GREATEST POSSESSION

FIRST LESSON: LUKE 12:29-31
And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

SECOND LESSON: MATTEW 5:4
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

GOLDEN TEXT: ROMANS 8: 17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

SHUN WORLDLY PLEASURES
How many people among the inhabitants of the world have recognised Brotherhood of the Cross and Star as the Kingdom of God on earth? People only come to Brotherhood of the Cross and Star for the purpose of acquiring children, money, life, clothing and houses. All these people seek to be made Presidents, Governors, Chairmen; also to be exalted, recognised, praised, loved and highly regarded by others. Considering all these, can one say they are seeking the Kingdom of God?
As a Christ’s practical student, everything is naked before you; it is either you accept or refute it. Whoever knows the truth has no problem and does not regret. Those who are Christ Practical Students know what they are passing through. They do everything with caution, knowing fully well where they are heading. Hence, they are not bothered, even when people cheat on them and perpetrated whatever atrocities against them. The three texts quoted above, constitute their food.
Our Lord Jesus Christ implored His Father to glorify Him since He had accomplished all that He (Father) asked Him, to do. The people who come to the
Kingdom to urge me Father to bless and elevate them to highly esteemed positions, are such people that seek to enter the Kingdom through the window. God knows our positions; and indeed, everything about us. Therefore, it is very unwise for anybody to implore God to bless and exalt him or complain of one problem or the other. This is not a practice of a Christ Practical Student.

The Israelites stayed in the land of Egypt for four hundred and thirty years.
While there, they farmed, traded, married and raised up children; and when it was the fullness of time, they departed from Egypt. I want you to ponder over this issue; why did the children of Israel depart from the land of Egypt? Having stayed in Egypt for such a long time, the place was literally considered their home. Although the Israelites greatly prospered, and had dwelled there for such a long period of time, yet they decided to leave Egypt their homeland. Obviously, the decision was not an easy one to implement by the Israelites. Why then did they have to leave Egypt? This is applicable to the Christ Practical Students’ fold. It gives an insight into the scriptural nomination that, whoever does not forsake all that he has; and follow after Christ is not worthy to be His disciple.

Many people are in the habit of cautioning and blaming whoever forsakes all that he had for the sake of God. The question is, do people consider such a person to be ignorant of his action? These detractors actually know that he is seeking the greatest things, which is the Kingdom of God. The Israelites would not have inherited the Promised Land, if they had lusted after their enormous possessions left behind in the land of Egypt. And since they had hopes for what was greater than their belongings in Egypt; which was according to the promise of their forefather; they exercised patience despite the intimidation and suffering encountered on the way. At this moment, the entire world is in the land of Egypt; and it is imperative for us to depart to the land that is kept for us. So, we should be prepared to pass through afflictions in order to inherit the land. You are enjoined to be mindless and undisturbed, no matter the treatment meted to you; and abusive language used on you; but should forge ahead and expect what is great. As earlier said, the entire world is in the land of Egypt; and it is now for us to seek the land, which belongs to us.
Let the first lesson be read.

ENDURE ALL SITUATION
Beloved, you are enjoined not to be bothered about what to eat, drink, wear and should also not be doubtful for these are the desires of the people of the world. What we are required to do is to succumb to any hard situation, mockery and defamation, because of Christ among others. We should not be bothered ever if it means denying ourselves every pleasure; but should forge-ahead knowing that the future holds greater things than what was in the past. You have to do away with all material things and without relenting seek the acquisition of the Kingdom of God.
Is God ignorant of your state; why then do you lament and complain of one thing or the other? This is the Kingdom, which Christ taught his disciples to pray for. See Matthew 6:10. The Kingdom has manifested; and you have to seek it. Your race to become a President would not bring salvation to you; and cannot grant you entrance into the Kingdom of God. God knows all your needs; He knows you need eternal life, power and glory however, the first requirement is seeking the Kingdom; according to His instruction in the scriptures.
The desire to seek the Kingdom of God cannot be derived through long preaching. Those who seek mundane things have perished but those who have forsaken such material possessions have gained the Kingdom of God. Let our Second lesson be re-examined.

SECOND LESSON: MATTEW 5:4
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

SPIRITUAL CHORUS
CRY AND LAMENT NO MORE
FOR THE SAVIOUR IS NOT ON HIS WAY
BUT RIGHT IN OUR MIDST

Beloved, the above lesson does not make any meaning to the people of the world for they are still plunged in darkness since they are children of perdition. However, it makes a lot of meaning to the children of God. Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is the Kingdom of God. Thus, only those who are spiritually enlightened really know what is going on in the Kingdom but the people of the world are blind to the situations herein.
Remember the dialogue between our Lord Jesus Christ and his disciples, see Matthew 13:10-11. All that you left behind in order to acquire the Kingdom would be given to you a hundred fold. What does Christ Practical Students stand for? Most people have been pondering over the meaning in vain. Collectively, these titles: Christ Practical Student, Christ Witness, Christ Student, Christ Servant and the Children of God denote the off-springs of the Almighty God.
They constitute those who aspire to inherit the Kingdom of God. A local adage maintains that, the fowl considers the things ahead greater than those of the past. For reference see Matthew 9:16-17.

No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
Lot with his family was warned against carrying any possession and turning back their faces when departing the corrupt city of Sodom and Gomorrah. But Lot’s wife whose mind was in her belongings could not control her lust, and so violated the warning by looking back. And consequently, perished. History is repeating itself in the Kingdom. To drive home this point, there was a certain brother, an Archbishop of a church, from Kenya, who forsook his entire wealth and position; and came to Brotherhood of the Cross and Star. And while here, he was addressed as ‘brother’. When people questioned why he has chosen this path, he replied that he was no longer interested in the things of the world. There are other such people in the Kingdom.
Most of the people think that, people come to Brotherhood of the Cross and Star to gain starvation. Do you remember the encounter between our Lord Jesus Christ and a certain young lawyer? See Luke 18:18-22. The young man was sad when our Lord Jesus Christ asked him to come and follow Him; after having sold a1l that he had and equally distributed to the poor.

SPIRITUAL CHORUS
SELL ALL YOUR POSSESSION
AND FOLLOW THE LORD

Your numerous years spent in the Kingdom would be in vain if you do not completely forsake the world. It would be of no help to you, even if you claim absolute knowledge of Olumba and render songs of praise to God, in as much as you still cling to desires of the world. It is completely necessary that you forsake every bit of worldly things. A lot of people do wonder why a person is asked to forsake the little he has instead of further acquiring more wealth, vehicles and raising a clan of children.
Let us re-examine our Golden text:

GOLDEN TEXT: ROMANS 8: 17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
You being a Christ Practical Student are joint-heirs with Christ, you should suffer with Him; for you would be glorified alongside Him; but you can go your own way if you are reluctant. The coming of the Ethiopian in this very year serves as a very good example to the Christ Practical Students. He rejected the one thousand, five hundred Naira (N1,500.00) that was given to him. Again, when he was given two plates of rice during feasting, he merely looked at it, smiled and then told the sharers that it would not be enough for the other brethren if he alone should eat two plates. But in your case, one person would want to eat up to five plates of rice so as to be fully satisfied.
You are expected to live up to expectation as Christ Practical Students; emulate the Ethiopian. It is most certain that, if we suffer with Christ we would also be glorified with Him.
Beloved a stroke of cane is enough for the wise· Let he who has an ear let him hear what the Holy Spirit has imparted to the whole world. May God bless His Holy words. Amen.

THANK YOU GOOD FATHER.
